After graduating from Exeter University in 2008 with a degree in Sport & Exercise Science, Mary was selected for the British Olympic Sailing Team and spent the next 8 years working with Britain’s best sailors, coaches, and support staff and went onto win several World, European and National titles, across a number of different sailing disciplines.
Having decided to take the next step from dinghy sailing and looking for the next challenge Mary was taken by how competitive and intense single handed racing is and especially the Figaro class. This is not a task to be undertaken lightly as racing in this class is strictly one design, everyone has the exact same boat so any gain has to be found from tactical decisions and crew work.
Mary has been selected as part of the Artemis Offshore Academy, the premier British school for developing offshore sailors. Under their guidance she will make her debut into the extremely competitive and high profile world of offshore professional single-handed sailing.
Having never sailed solo before joining the Academy, Mary has her work cut out to prove herself a worthy Rookie in both training and race preparation and earn herself a place in the line up alongside some of the world’s best solo offshore competitors.
I am very happy to be part of The Magenta Project. I am committed to gender diversity in whatever aspect of sailing. I encourage women to push their limits. And I love magenta!
