About Magenta 65

In the early hours of 11th June 2016, Team SCA, crossed the finish line in Leg 8 of the Volvo Ocean Race creating history and sending waves across the sailing world. This was the first leg win in offshore sailing’s toughest race for a female team since Tracy Edwards’ Maiden in Class D of the 1989-90 race and the sailors onboard TeamSCA wanted the opportunities for women to perform in this race to continue.

From an 18 months selection process, pulling together an international team of sailors from solo sailors, olympians, world record holders and some relatively inexperienced. TeamSCA showed through training, learning and managing differing skillsets you can create a winning team that can overcome the inexperience of the race to compete and beat the best in the world.

Magenta 65 was established following this success to create a team that will put women on the the podium and ensure there are and continue to be opportunities for women in the Volvo Ocean Race. We are proud to align with The Magenta Project’s vision of advancing women in professional sailing.

I would love to see a major sponsor recognise the potential this team has to win a big sailing competition, and smash up some outdated stereotypes at the same time.
