The Mentoring team

About the scheme

The Magenta Project’s mission is to accelerate women to the top of sailing. It is well known that women particularly respond well to having role models and mentors in their personal and professional development to help them achieve their potential. To date no such mentoring scheme operates across the sport of sailing

We are excited to be able to run this pilot mentoring scheme in the sport

The aim of the pilot scheme is to link up aspiring female sailors with mentors across the industry for the purpose of supporting their sailing development. The mentors will work with the mentees to help plan their sporting development, overcome hurdles, find industry sponsors and inspire them to succeed at the highest level possible

The programme is a 6-monthly mentor/mentee matching scheme with a limited time for applications.  (i.e. it is not a year round application process)  The programme will provide information to both parties to ensure they get the best out of the relationship. The matching/selection process takes place from September. It will require both parties to fill in an application to ensure the best match

It is anticipated there are three groups of sailors the scheme could help:

Olympic/dinghy class transitions – match up those seeking to move from Olympic/dinghy classes to offshore or inshore/keelboats. Both youth (18-25) and senior (>25years) sailors

Offshore sailors – sailors already sailing or racing offshore who want to up their game, change classes or aim for a particular race (solo and crewed)

Inshore/keelboat – those already in keelboats/yachts aspiring to compete in any class, including top foiling events & match racing

Conditions

The minimum age for the scheme is 18
