Justine Mettraux has taken 3rd place in the Rookie division following her first time competing in La Solitaire Bompard Le Figaro Race, a 1500 mile race split into four stages comprising coastal and offshore racing testing sailors to the limit.
Following the four intense stages, Justine has shown genuine talent and is already looking towards participating in next years edition of the race, recognized as the most challenging offshore solo race competed in one design format.
How were the last 2 stages of La Solitaire?
“The start of the third stage was pretty intense with a lot of wind up towards Ushant, however I was able to hang onto the leading fleet. On the last stage, I felt really tired and unable to sail as well as I would have liked.”
What is your overall feeling?
“I’m glad I have completed the race, and experienced it first hand. This allows me to see what to work on in order to perform better next year. Overall I had two good stages and two bad stages. What is certain is that I will return for my second participation.”
How do you feel about your 3rd place rookie ranking?
“The rookie class was always my goal, I had finished first or second on the pre season races therefore I had hoped to perform better. I made more mistakes during La Solitaire than on these previous races and back then I felt less comfortable with my strategy. Congratulations to Will Harris for his deserved victory among rookies and Yoann Richomme for the overall win! ”
“First we must carry out some maintenance on the boat and take stock with William Farcy, my trainer, regarding my participation in Douarnenez-Les Sables at the end of August. Until then I’ll take some time out because I really need to rest! ”
